On 8 October 2014, XtraSpace’s recently opened Bellville facility hosted a special awards evening for the Bellville Cricket Club, for which XtraSpace is the primary sponsor. The evening was attended by players of all ages, along with cricket legend Eric Simons.
Two members of the XtraSpace Cricket Club, Beuran Hendricks and Stiaan van Zyl, were both awarded trophies in recognition of their selection to the Protea squad. Beuran Hendricks, who’s known for his fearsome left-arm bowling, was also awarded the Club Player of the Year trophy.
Some of the Club’s up-and-coming star players were also honoured. Christopher Graham, a matric pupil at Fairmont High School, and Schaugn van Greunen, a matric pupil at Stellenberg High School, received trophies in recognition of their selection to play in the Western Province U/18 A and B Squads – an exciting achievement for these excellent young cricketers.
Eric Simons, an all-rounder and previously coach of South Africa’s national side for two years, addressed those present. He reflected on his past international career and shared some inspiring words, particularly addressing the junior players. He emphasised that players should want but not “need” to win and that this is a recipe for success in the sporting world.
The evening was enjoyed by all and XtraSpace was complimented on its Bellville facility.
