How does self-storage work?
To store personal or business items at an XtraSpace Self Storage branch, simply choose and reserve a suitable sized unit, pack and move in. You’ll keep the key to your unit, and nobody other than you will access it. Whenever you want to add or remove items, you can do so. More on how it works here.
Is there an XtraSpace self-storage facility near me?
We have multiple branches in the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng. All are conveniently located close to major highways and arterial roads.
How much self-storage do I need?
You can use our size guide to help you estimate how much space you need, or ask our team for expert advice. If you have a lot of items to store, it’s a good idea to leave sufficient space for an aisle so you can easily access your stored goods.
How much does self-storage cost?
It depends on how much space you need. You can request a quote online, or call 01 09 777 777 and a consultant will gladly assist you. We charge one month’s deposit upfront, and our rental rates are payable in advance. For security reasons, we do not accept cash. Our preferred payment method is debit order.
How safe is self storage?
Our self storage units are self-locking, and you keep the key. All our facilities feature full access control, with CCTV monitoring and security personnel on duty around the clock. Our facilities also include suitable fire control measures, and all our self storage units are clean, damp-proof and dust-free. For extra peace of mind, XtraSpace provides all clients with insurance for their stored items as a standard benefit.
What sizes of self-storage units are available?
Each of our branches offers self storage units in a different range of sizes, from 2 m2 right up to 1000 m2. Some offer both indoor units and outdoor, garage-style units, while other branches provide just one or other unit type. Please check individual branch pages for more details.
What can and can’t I store?
You can store almost anything in our self storage facilities, provided it’s not hazardous, toxic, illegal or a living organism. For example, our self storage units are ideal for storing sporting equipment, retail merchandise, furniture, antiques and collectibles, household goods, documents, jewellery, clothing, and electronic and digital devices. Restricted items include: – flammable materials – firearms and explosives – illegal goods – plants and animals.
Do you store vehicles?
Many of our branches in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape offer secure bays for storing vehicles, including cars, boats, caravans, trailers and light-duty commercial vehicles. Please visit individual branch pages for more details.
Do you offer insurance for stored items?
Yes. XtraSpace offers all clients insurance on items they store, as a standard benefit. This excludes vehicles, however. We recommend having personal insurance for your vehicle.
When can I access my self-storage unit?
You can access your unit at any time during office hours, and by arrangement after hours.
Must I pack my own self-storage unit?
Yes, but our staff is always available to assist, and we provide trolleys and packaging materials onsite.
Do you offer packing materials?
Yes. We offer a range of packing materials, including boxes, bubble wrap and adhesive tape. We also offer padlocks.
When do I tell you if I want to move out of a unit?
We require 30 days written notice of your intention to vacate a unit. You won’t be required to sign a long-term agreement, so you can easily move to a smaller or larger unit (or move out) if your storage space needs change after a month.
