Hill2Hill race startOn a chilly, misty Sunday morning on 13 September, over a 1,000 mountain bike enthusiasts gathered for the start of the tenth Sunday Tribune Hill 2 Hill event. This is a 105-kilometre race from Hilton to Shongweni, attempted only by the bravest of the brave.

Among the contenders was an intrepid XtraSpace team of three cyclists, sporting our newly designed XtraSpace cycling gear.

XtraSpace is an active supporter of cycling in South Africa, sponsoring key organisations like the Race Organisers Admin Group (ROAG), which simplifies the administration of key cycling events – among them the Hill 2 Hill race – every year.

Manager of our XtraSpace Mkondeni branch in Pietermaritzburg, Claire Small, said: “Being an avid cyclist myself, the idea of having our own XtraSpace kit, being involved in the sponsorship of ROAG and generally having a lot to do with the growing sport of cycling, has been a dream come true for me.”

First to cross the finish line in this year’s Hill 2 Hill race were Brendon Davies with a time of 3.37.44 and, in the women’s race, Jeannie Dreyer (with a time of 4.23.15). Well done to the winners and to everyone else who completed this gruelling race!

The day before the main Hill 2 Hill race, another XtraSpace team completed the slightly shorter but still very demanding 45-kilometre race, cycling from Cato Ridge to Shongweni.

Much fun was had by both our XtraSpace teams, and everyone who participated is looking forward to being at the start line again in 2016.
