XtraSpace at Durban Big Walk

On Saturday 22 May, over 30,000 people participated in the Discovery East Coast Radio Big Walk – and XtraSpace was there, wearing out the takkies to raise much-needed funds for cancer.

The day was a huge success, with good weather and plenty of excitement as Durbanites took to the promenade, enjoying the fresh sea air and glorious scenery en route from uShaka Marine World to the People’s Park, at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

For those not up to a full 20-kilometre walk, there were also 5, 10 and 15-kilometre routes. The oldest participant in the event, Mr. Ahmed Dawjee, joined in the 10-kilometre walk. He turns 86 this week! We wish him a happy birthday.

Completing the full route in first place was Aaron Mahlangu, with an impressive time of 01:32:47 – 19 minutes faster than the preceding year. In second place, and the first woman over the finish line, was Zelda Schultz, with a time of 01:52:07.

Congratulations to the Big Walk winners for 2016, along with everyone else who joined in and “walked the walk”, doing their bit to get healthy and build a sense of community in Durban. See you again next year!
