For this year’s Mandela Day our Cape Town team went to support the Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Khayelitsha whilst our Johannesburg team got involved at Irene Homes, a home for mentally disabled ladies in Pretoria.
Our Cape Town team and the Mdzananda Animal Clinic
On a cold, wet Friday, members of our XtraSpace Cape Town team made their way to Khayelitsha to support the Mdzananda Animal Clinic. Equipped with hammers, nails and measuring tapes, all of us were excited to be given the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the animals of Khayelitsha.
The XtraSpace team was invited to participate in building kennels out of wooden pallets, to provide much-needed shelter for animals.
After a lot of laughs and a good few mistakes, the XtraSpace Cape Town team eventually got it together, assembling one of 15 beautiful kennels made on the day. We hope the kennels will make many animals safer, warmer and more comfortable in the months and years ahead.
Our Jo’burg team and Irene Homes
We were greeted with big, unforgettable smiles and then activities got underway, with some yummy treats and a welcoming introduction from matrons Lesley and Marina.
The lovely ladies who live at Irene Homes enjoyed some ten-pin bowling, threw balls around, looked in a bucket of balls for chocolates and just had a blast all round, as did all of us from XtraSpace. Upon calling it a day, the ladies sang “Jesus loves me”, melting our hearts and uplifting our spirits.
XtraSpace thanks both Irene Homes and Mdzananda Animal Clinic for allowing us to give them 67 minutes of our time, and for reminding us how to have some good old-fashioned fun.
